Re: Petrol Contributions

I have recently joined the Open University Car Share scheme. When I give other members a lift I will be entitled to receive a contribution of up to 15p per passenger per mile. This is the rate which has been suggested by Open University Car Share and may change from time to time in line with motoring costs and general inflation.

I believe that the receipt of contributions as part of a car sharing arrangement, for social or other similar purposes, in respect of the carriage of passengers on a journey in a vehicle insured under a private car policy will not be regarded as constituting the carriage of passengers for hire or reward (or the use of the vehicle for hiring) and will therefore not contravene any clauses under my insurance policy.

Can you please confirm that this is correct.

Yours sincerely
